$100,000 Fire

Weiser Suffers $100,000 Fire

WEISER, Idaho, Aug. 8—A devastating fire of unknown origin caused an estimated $100,000 in damage as it tore through the city early this morning. The blaze originated in the Gem State Lumber yards and quickly spread, destroying the lumber yards, a storage plant, a coal yard, and several residences.
As the fire raged, cries of “It’s the I.W.W.!” echoed among the fire fighters and onlookers when a second fire broke out in the residential section, leading to near panic. Although many residents suspect that the fire was deliberately set by members of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.), no concrete evidence has been presented to support these claims.
The Gem State Lumber yards suffered an estimated $35,000 in damages, while the Weiser Ice and Cold Storage plant incurred $25,000 in losses. Additional destruction included fourteen automobiles, 270 tons of coal in the Lion Coal Company yards, five empty boxcars, several residences, and various smaller damages, all contributing to the total estimate of $100,000.
Fortunately, insurance covers the majority of the losses, and plans for rebuilding are already underway.
