Weiser  – Stewart Allen “Stu” Haun, Weiser, passed away quietly Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007. Stewart was born Jan. 27, 1943, the second son of Edward and Molly Schaaf Haun, joining an “older by nine months an fifteen minutes” brother, Jim. A pesky little sister, Patty, completed the family nine years later.
Stu was reared in the farming communities of Weiser, and the Oregon Slope, where he enjoyed all of the wondrous freedoms of  being a country boy. A natural born prankster, wherever Stu went, trouble followed. He epitomized the term “class clown” and was notoriously known for his knack in tacking on appropriate nicknames to all he met.
Stu attended grade school at Jefferson Elementary on the Oregon Slope and graduated from Weiser High School. As a teen, Stu was a wisecracking rebel whose favorite subjects were flirty girls and shiny cars.
He was a pied piper amongst his friends and a hero to his younger cousins, who, enigmatically became masters of rude musical noises after spending time with him.
Following his high school graduation in 1961, Stu enlisted in the Idaho National Guard. His innate aptitude with guns earned him prestigious medals for sharp shooting and expertise with the M-16 rifle.
Remembering the heritage of his emigrant grandparents, who taught him pride for his country, Stewart proudly strove for and won the Idaho Service Award of Valor.
While enjoying the independence of single hood, Stu’s wild ways were suddenly stunted. Stu married Janet Alexander and became a family man. No father ever crowed louder than when his son Cory was born in 1966, Stu’s unconditional love and pride in his son were evident in the encouragement and dedication he exhibited for Cory every day of his life. Stu and Jan were later divorced.
Stu’s ensuing days of bachelor-hood ended abruptly when he was literally bowled over by a petite little blonde with a beguiling smile named Barb Brannock. Stu and Barb were united on April 25, 1972, and Stu inherited a giggling gaggle of  “girldom.” Barb brought with her, three pink bundles of blondness who stole his heart and filled his home. Barb tragically went to her Godly home in 1999.
Stu’s talents were vast and led him into various venues, all at which he was successful. However, it was his love for the smell of dirt that led him back to the farm and a partnership with his father that gave him the most pleasure.
With an ardor for the outdoors, a propensity for competition, Stu played a mean game of cribbage and knocked down more than his share of bowling pins. Fishing, however, was his passion. Nothing delighted him more than a stringer full of fish and the chance to beat his father at the game.
Stewart is survived by his son, Cory; his father, Ed Haun, Weiser; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pat Haun, Boise; and a sister, Patty, Whitebird; his grandsons, Ryan and Tyler, who are his legacy; his stepdaughters, Cathy (Ken) Eckhart, Payette; Deb (Larry) Nakamura, Weiser, and Barb (Ross) Reinman, Sebastopol, Calif. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and an adopted second brother, Larky Hall, Boise, devoted friends and his truest loves, his dog Willy and his cat Wheedy.
Preceding him in death are his mother, Molly; his wife, Barb; a grandson, Austin; his grandparents; and special aunts and uncles.
A celebration of Stu’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with a potluck luncheon at the Weiser Community Church. Memorials may be made in Stu’s name to a favorite charity. Arrangements by Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel.
