Eugene C. (Gene) Hetrick

Eugene (Gene) Hetrick, was born September, 1907 in Sterling, Whiteside County, Illinois, and passed away at Weiser on June 12, 1995.
Married to Esther Hetrick, 1905-1992. 
Gene was the owner of the Weiser News Company, which he purchased from Frank Mortimer in 1940.

(Special to The Statesman) Eugene C. Hetrick, foreman of the composing room of the Nampa Leader-Herald for the past seven years, left Friday night for La Grande, Ore., where he has accepted a position on the La Grande Observer. Mrs. Hetrick will join him soon.

Obituary

Sept 20, 1907 – Jun 12, 1995
Eugene C. “Gene” Hetrick, 87, a long- time Weiser resident and businessman died on Monday, June 12, 1995, at his home near Weiser of a farming accident.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, at Thomason Funeral Chapel, Weiser. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weiser.
Gene was born on September 20, 1907, at Mount Sterling, III., the son of Delmon and Clara Bailey Hetrick. He came to the Weiser area when he was seven years old, graduating from Weiser High School in 1925. He attended the University of Idaho and then made Weiser his home for the rest of his life.
He apprenticed as a printer at an early age and practiced the trade for many years. He served in the U.S. Army.
He was the proprietor of the Weiser News Company, an office supply store, for 30 years. After he retired, he became a “gentleman” farmer on a Sunnyside acreage, which he enjoyed very much.
Gene was a charter member of the B.P.O.E. Weiser Lodge #1683. He loved and was loved by many friends and family.
Survivors include a sister, Lela Garoutte of Weiser; three stepdaughters, Susan Kelley of Twin Falls, Hilde Carson of Nova Scotia, Canada, Madeline Howard of Ontario, Ore.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, his parents, and three brothers.
The family suggests that memorials be made in his name to the Elks Rehabilitation Hospital, 204 Fort Place, Boise, ID., 83702, or to a favorite charity.
