James “Jim” Calvin Booth, 69, passed away suddenly on September 28, 2013, from complications of a pulmonary embolism.
Jim was born December 29, 1943, in Payette, Idaho, to Jack Booth and Dorothy Woodland Booth of Weiser, Idaho. Jim graduated from Weiser High School in 1963 and, in 1970, earned an Associate of Science degree in Law Enforcement from Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon.
In 1967, Jim married Lola Ann Frazier in Reno, Nevada. The couple lived in Lincoln City and Helix, Oregon before moving to Emmett, Idaho where he was employed with the Emmett Police Department as a patrolman in 1970. In 1971, Jim moved to Nampa and worked as a patrolman in Nampa City Police Department. He later spent 20 years with the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office where he retired in 2002 after 32 years of service to the people of Idaho.
Raised in the LDS faith, as a young man Jim served a two year mission in the Midwest. Later, in 2006, Jim converted to Catholicism and became a member of Saint Paul’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Jim loved the outdoors and the many friendships he formed over the years with his fellow outdoorsmen. He gave generously to a variety of charitable institutions and valued time with his family. In his search for meaning and understanding, he enjoyed many of the great philosophers, one of his favorites being the American philosopher and political theorist Thomas Paine. In Paine’s Rights of Man, he said, “Independence is my happiness, and I view things as they are, without regard to place or person; my country is the world, and my religion is to do good,” which describes Jim‘s own philosophy. As a complex thinker, he firmly believed in personal accountability, honesty, and humility, yet he continued to be a romantic idealist. Jim was active until his death and had many other interests including his most recent love of motorcycle riding and computers.
Jim is survived by his wife Lola Booth of Nampa; his Aunt Ruby Robinson, also of Nampa; his brother David (Carmen) Booth of Kettering, OH; his sister-in-law Bette (Mike) Murray of Eugene, OR; his children, Scott (Jordie) Booth of Caldwell and Jeremy Booth of Eugene, OR; his grandchildren, Connor, Ian, and Sean Ann Booth; nephews Chad and Brad Murray and niece, Madi Booth.
