Boyd E. Baker

Obituary

Class of 1950
May 11, 1932 – Oct.26, 2023
Boyd E. Baker
Boyd Baker passed away peacefully on October 26th at the age of 91. He was born in Weiser, Idaho, to Robert Clarence Baker and Beulah Hulet. Boyd’s life was a testament to the enduring values of family, faith, and unwavering dedication. Born in 1932, he embarked on a remarkable journey and touched countless lives with his kindness.
Boyd’s formative years were spent in Weiser, Idaho, where he graduated from Weiser High School in 1950. His passion for knowledge led him to Idaho State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1954. This academic accomplishment laid the foundation for his successful career as a pharmacist, where he was revered for his expertise, compassion, and genuine concern for the well-being of his community. In August of the same year, he enlisted in the Army, completed field medic training, and was then stationed in Berlin. Following his military service, he spent a year at Stanford University before embarking on his first pharmacy job at Potter Drug in Boise, Idaho.
In April of 1959, Boyd‘s life took a wonderful turn when he met Shirlene Mansell, the love of his life. They were married in 1960 and over the next eight years welcomed four sons. Family was at the heart of Boyd’s life, and he took immense pride in nurturing and watching his children and grandchildren grow into successful and caring individuals. In 1963, Boyd returned to Weiser and joined his father as a pharmacist at Thriftway Drug Store, and in 1972, when Boyd’s father retired, Boyd and Shirlene took over ownership of the store. He continued to work there until he retired in 1998, having served as a pharmacist for 42 years. In 2011, after 48 years in Weiser, Boyd and Shirlene moved to Meridian to be closer to family.
Boyd was a man of many talents and interests, with photography being one of his great passions. He was an accomplished photographer and even had a photography business on the side. Through the lens of his camera, he captured the beauty of life and created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to be the subjects of his work.
Boyd leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirlene; his brother, Kenney; his sons, Jon (Joanne), David (Estelita), Jim (Sarah), and Dennis (Tracy); as well as his thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert. Boyd‘s spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of those who were touched by his kindness and love.
Services to celebrate Boyd‘s life will be held at the Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday, November 20th at 10:00 am where family and friends will gather to remember and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army in Boyd‘s name. Boyd‘s memory will serve as an inspiration, reminding us of the enduring power of love, faith, and compassion.
