John Arthur Rice

Obituary

Class of 1943
1926 – Apr. 1945
WEISER — Graveside services for Arthur Rice will be conducted at Hillcrest Saturday at 2:30 p. m. by the Rev. George C. Berreman, minister of the Weiser Congregational Church, according to Manager A. S. Jones of Northam’s, who is in charge of arrangements.
Arthur Rice, of the Army air corps, was killed last April in a plane crash near Mono Lake, Calif. He was the younger son of N. J. Rice, county superintendent of schools, and was en route from March field to San Francisco, for the purpose of completing his aviation training at St. Mary’s college.
The trip was being made at night, and the plane crashed in the rugged mountain section not far from Yosemite park, at an elevation of 11,000 feet. Three other men besides young Rice were also killed. The crashed plane and bodies of the victims were recently found by deer hunters.
