Franka Nitcher
Franka May (Nitcher) Chandler, 98, of Nampa, passed away at home on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Nampa Fourth Ward LDS Chapel, 121 N. Canyon St., Nampa. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd., Nampa, and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church, prior to the services.
Franka was born Oct. 29, 1908, in Underwood, Wash., to Nellie May Ireland and Frank Hereford Nitcher. She moved to Weiser with her parents when she was around 2 years old. She attended schools there and graduated from Weiser High School.
She married Clarence Whitney Chandler in 1927 and she and Clarence were later sealed in the Salt Lake City L.D.S. Temple on Sept. 19, 1932. They raised their three daughters and one son in Weiser. She and Clarence owned and operated the Golden Eagle Grill and the Greyhound Bus Depot in Weiser for many years during which time they made many lifelong friends. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions including teaching and doing extensive genealogy research.
Franka (Nitcher) Chandler
She spent many years extracting names for her genealogy and was still attending the temple in Boise just before her death. She loved her family and delighted in her many grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Franka is survived by her daughters Joyce (Bob) Haverfield, Lynn (Art) Norton, both of Nampa, and Ada (Melvin) Ballantyne of Nyssa, Ore., and son Jeff (Cynthia) Chandler of Boise. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 109 great-grandchildren and 46 great-great-grandchildren, two brothers Elbert (Gertie) Nitcher, and Corky (Lou) Nitcher, of Yuma, Ariz., and two sisters, Adonna Weatherly, of Prescott Ariz., and Ethel Lung of McCloud, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence.
