George Crocker

Obituary

Unk. DOB – Unk. DOD
Buried at Mineral Cemetery
“In those early days a mining camp would contain many personalities from different countries. One I well remember, as I heard him so often. When he had a few drinks, he would come out on the porch of the saloon and walk across it singing “Barney McCoy.” He was a large Irishman with a very good voice. Long years later he passed away in his little rude cabin, and I helped to make his coffin.
When we took him off the bed, we found under his pillow a girl’s picture. On the back but badly faded were the words, “With love, Mary.” I often wondered what the story was that ended there. We put the picture in the coffin with George Crocker as we did not have the heart to separate them.”
From John Flynn’s Memories of Mineral as told to Muriel Dudgeon, 1967.
