BUILDING BOOM AT WEISER
Two Three-Story Business Blocks to Be Erected at Once.
WEISER, April 22 -The old Van Sicklin building on the corner of Main & State Streets has been bought by Frank Gribbin. Today it is being moved to make room for a three-story building to be erected by the Herman Haas Hardware & Implement company.
Colonel Drake received a phone message from Landore this morning saying that ledge of high-grade copper ore has just been struck in the Haas mine. This mine is one of the properties of the Hancock Mining company, of which the colonel is manager.
Morris Sommer is about to tear down his store on the corner of State & Idaho Streets. In its stead he is going to erect a three-story building, modern in every respect. He and Architect H. W. Bond are now in Portland getting pointers on modern departmental store buildings. Mrs. Sommers is also visiting in Portland.
Harry Wulff, manager of the Herman Haas Hardware & Implement company, is in Portland. While there he is gathering pointers for the company’s new hardware building.
J.A. Sparland, who has been at the Josephine Hospital for some time, is gradually recovering from his attack of paralysis. It is hoped he will be able to leave the hospital in a couple of weeks.
The examination of Esau Wood of Council as to his sanity was held at the courthouse last evening. After a careful examination he was released.
Yesterday afternoon Mrs. P.J. Gearhart entertained the East End club. The hours were spent in doing fancy work. Fine refreshments were served and everybody went home feeling happy.
The garage being built by J.H. Scholeske is being rushed to completion, that the many who are expected to come to the Oregon-Idaho Development in automobiles may be accommodated next week.
Mrs. J. H. Harris and daughter, Mrs. John McCrea, are visiting Lawrence Harris and family at Espee, Idaho.
Mrs. M.E. Sommercamp is ill at her home. She is being cared for by a trained nurse and her many friends are hopeful for her recovery.
The following are building new houses: B.F. Varian, George Nesbitt, Wesley Barton. E.R. Coulter and Isaac Leighton.
There are many buildings being built and contemplated in the city at the present time and yet we have no boom.
