WEISER  — John R. Walker, Jr. is the new Mayor of Weiser.
Walker will step into the city’s top political slot Jan. 1 after winning Tuesday’s mayoral election. Walker defeated incumbent Mayor Steve Patterson by more than 300 votes.
According to a total provided by the City of Weiser, Walker received 570 votes and Patterson received 234 votes. By precinct, Walker received 160 votes in No. 1, 186 in No. 2 and 224 in No. 3.
Patterson received 52 votes in precinct 1, 99 in precinct 2 and 83 in precinct 3.
The three candidates running for  the three Weiser City Council seats up for election were not opposed. Cliff Barberis, incumbent, received 627 votes, Layna Hafer, incumbent, 562 votes, and Dan Randleman, 635 votes.
Walker is currently serving as City Council president, now in his fourth year, and his council term expires at the end of this year.
He is a native of Weiser, graduating from Weiser High School, and served in the U.S. Air Force and Idaho Air National Guard for more than 32 years.
Patterson completed one term as mayor and three terms on the Weiser City Council. Voter turnout was 36 percent of the registered voters in the City of Weiser.
