Samuel Lehman is a Weiser Area Pioneer, the grandfather of Marcus Reinhaus and the great great grandfather of James Livolsi, who has kindly provided me with some of the following information.

My relatives were all early pioneers of Weiser, German immigrants that came to America circa 1850-1870. Reinhaus, Lehman, Haas and Schas surnames are my Weiser relatives.

My great great grandfather Samuel Lehman was a German immigrant who fought for the Confederacy in Mississippi in the 1860’s.

Samuel Lehman’s children, Sophia (m. Morris Reinhaus), Ella (m. Bernard Hass) and Abe .

My great grandfather Morris Reinhaus rode a horse from Santa Ana, California and settled in Weiser in 1880, married my great grandmother Sophia Lehman and raised my grandfather Marcus who ran Reinhaus Shoe Store on State & Main Streets with my grandmother Hazel Schas.

His children were Abraham (Abe), Julius (John), Ella, who married Bernard Haas, and Sophia, my great grandmother who married my great grandfather Morris Reinhaus and they both started Reinhaus Shoe Company.

Their son Marcus Reinhaus married my grandmother Hazel Schas, born in Portland Oregon, who’s parents were Hattie Burger and Mark Schas.

I just found a great website developed by the Mormon Church and it lists all the surnames of my relatives including my grandparents Marcus Reinhaus and Hazel Schas and my uncle Morrie and mother Paula. Morrie lives in Boise and I visited him in May. We talked about how it was a wonderful life back then living in Weiser and how everything started to decline after Weiser’s Washington Hotel Fire, which they mistakenly demolished, a few years later they moved the Fiddler’s Festival away from down town up to the old High School.
