Preparing for School Year

Schools, Scholars, and Teachers: May 9, 1895
Misses Emma Cope, Lizzie Cope, Maggie Watson, Emma Anderson, Emma Taylor, Minnie Richardson, and Will Anderson have returned home after attending six-weeks at Teachers’ Normal at Caldwell.
Miss Anderson and Miss Richardson will continue their education at the Weiser Academy next winter. Will Anderson plans to attend Oberlin College in Ohio.
Lizzie Cope will teach in the Hitt district, while Maggie Watson has secured the school at Upper Mann Creek. Florence Freeman will take charge of the Crystal Bottom school, and Tom Jeffreys is set to teach at the Hemingway school. Alonzo Hemingway is engaged to teach in Middle Valley, and Ed Adams is employed for the Utley district.
Agnes Lynch is finishing a successful term at Ruthburg, and Miss Mids Lorton will oversee the primary department of the Salubria school, with the higher department being led by Professor Wolfe. Mrs. Dura Black is currently teaching in the Upper Council district, and Miss Lottie Sharp will soon close a term that began in May on Lick Creek.
Miss Emma Cope, regarded as one of the county’s best teachers, is ready to take on a new school. Any district fortunate enough to get her will benefit greatly. Misses Mary and Frances Galloway will head to Boise around the beginning of next month to teach in the city’s schools.
On the first Monday in September (the 2nd), the Weiser High School will open with expectations of an exceptionally large attendance. There will be four teachers this winter: Professor J.F. Lowe, the former principal of the Shoshone School, will lead the high school department; Professor J.W. Hodge, who was the principal of the Salubria School last year, will oversee the grammar department; Miss Harriet A. Stinson of Lewis, Iowa, will take charge of the intermediate department; and Miss Lorena Hixon of Holton, Kansas, will lead the primary department.
Roy Wolfe is slated to teach at Monroe Creek.
A Teachers’ Institute will be held in Weiser this month, organized by School Superintendent Maryatt. The institute will begin on the 20th and will run for ten days, excluding Sunday. Professor F.A. Swanger, president of the Idaho State Normal School at Albion, will conduct the institute. His assistant will be Miss Grace Milliman, a graduate of the Iowa State Normal and the newly appointed principal of the Pocatello High School. Professor Swanger highly recommends her as one of the best teachers of “methods” he knows.
The teachers’ examination, which has been advertised for the past three weeks, is currently in progress today in the school superintendent’s office.
