Dies at Weiser – Prominent Merchant Established Retail Business in 1905
WEISER (Special) — A.W. Hamilton, 80, a prominent Weiser merchant for the past 42 years, died here early Friday morning after several years of illness.
Mr. Hamilton, who, with his son, Clark A., has operated the Hamilton and Son retail store, was born at Morningsun, Iowa, on Dec. 16, 1866. The merchant came to Weiser from Kansas in 1905 to establish his store.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a graduate of Spalding College, Kansas City, MO.
Mr. Hamilton had been active in civic affairs and had served several terms on the Weiser school board.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Hamilton, a son, Clark A., and a foster daughter, Mrs. Norval Jones, all of Weiser; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Blair and Mrs. Bessie Martin, both of Tacoma, Wash.; a brother, John Hamilton of Canyon City, Colo., and a niece, Mrs. Ethel McBain of Nampa. Six grandchildren also survive.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p. m. at the Community church with the Rev. Hubert A. Bahr officiating.
Northam-Jones Chapel has charge of arrangements and internment will be at Hillcrest.
