Betty June Waller

Obituary

Class of 1952
July 8, 1934 – Oct. 8, 2012
Betty June Waller
On July 8, 1934 a baby girl, Betty June Waller, was born to Cliff and Faythe Waller. She was born in Westphalia, Kansas-nine and a half miles south, and three and a half miles east of Waverly, Kansas, the big town. Her arrival was monumental since she was the first grandchild on both sides of her family.
In 1938 she moved with her family to Weiser, Idaho, where she attended school and graduated from Weiser High School in 1952. After high school she attended Northwest Nazarene University, in Nampa, Idaho, graduating in 1959. Her major was elementary education. She subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Idaho in Moscow. Betty taught fourth grade for the Boise School District for many years at both Hawthorne and Cole elementary schools. She retired in 1995.
In 1977 she organized and created the church library at Boise First Church of the Nazarene. For the past thirty-five years she has faithfully led this library to become one of the finest church libraries in the nation. She is an honorary member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Church Libraries.
Betty passed away on October 8, 2012 in Boise, Idaho after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister-Mary. She is survived by two aunts-Eula Yates of Nampa, Idaho and Thelma Thompson of Meridian, Idaho, many cousins, and a whole host of friends.
Services will be Sunday, October 14th at Boise First Church of the Nazarene, 3852 N. Eagle Road, Boise, ID. A worship service at 10:00 am will honor Betty for her years of service, naming the library for her. At 11:45 am a short memorial service will be held at the conclusion of the worship service.
Memorials may be sent to the library at Boise First Church of the Nazarene or to the Betty June Waller Education Scholarship at Northwest Nazarene University.
