Dale Piercy

Obituary

Class of 1952
Feb. 27, 1934 – June 14, 2018
Dale Piercy
Dale Piercy
Dale Piercy, of Lakewood, WA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 14, 2016, at the age of 82. Dale was born in Buhl, ID, on February 27, 1934, to Harold Piercy and Mollie Piercy Westberg. Dale spent his early years between Pendleton, OR, and Weiser, ID, graduating high school from Weiser in 1952. He then took up residence in Pendleton and graduated from Oregon State University, Class of 1957, where he was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Dale was proud to be a Beaver and took several trips with his fellow alumni over the years. He served two years with the Army at Ft. Huachuca, AZ.
In 1960, Dale married his one true love, V. Gladys Bergquist of Prince Albert, Canada. The same year, they moved to Tacoma and started their happily ever after, raising two wonderful boys.
Dale was a true salesman. He worked for Sperry Rand and Sound Business Systems for over 40 years. Dale was a member of Tacoma Rotary 8, ARMA, and a leader for Indian Guides.
Dale had many accomplishments. He built the first of two cabins in Packwood, WA, the first in 1968 and the second in 1979, where he enjoyed many wonderful years of skiing, fishing, and hiking with his family and friends. He was in Packwood when Mt. St. Helens erupted on May 18, celebrating his youngest son’s 13th birthday. Dale was avid in seeing the expansion of White Pass and wrote many letters of support. In 2010, the dream came true, and he skied the new expansion with his Tacoma Rotary 8 friends, a tradition known as “Hawkeye Weekend” which has continued for over 30 years. Dale contributed his time and energy to the Hilltop Artist in Residence Program, which is instructed by his oldest son.
Dale continued his passion for golfing with friends, and one of his favorite spots was Meadow Park. He also volunteered and donated many hours to the Fort Steilacoom Off-Leash Dog Park, where he enjoyed seeing all the dogs and their families come to play. He had a strong love for animals.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, V. Gladys, and his parents Harold Piercy, Mollie Piercy Westberg, and stepfather Bart Westberg. He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Greg Piercy and Carol, and Eric Piercy and Charlene, as well as his four grandchildren, Catherine, Mollie, Maria, and Jacob. The family wishes to thank Hospice Care for their gentleness and compassion, especially Cathy Eddinger, Marion, and Sandy. Dale had a few last words, but the one that will always stick out is, “Wait, wait a minute, I have a plan.” He always did, and we will forever love and miss you.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m., at Titlow Lodge, 8425 6th Avenue, Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Protect Our Pets, PO Box 97111, Lakewood, WA 98497.
