Dorothy Yockey Maxwell

Aug. 19, 1918 – May 22, 2007
Dorothy Yockey Maxwell, 88, passed away Tuesday May 22, 2007 in Weiser.
Dorothy was born in Weiser on August 19, 1918, to William and Jesse Dawson Dutton. Jesse passed away when Dorothy was 11 years old. She lived with aunts and uncles, Claude and Jannie Gish and Kate and Charles Craven, most of her childhood. She graduated from Weiser High School in 1936 and went to work for Wulff Hardware for a dollar a day. Over the years, she worked for the Signal-American newspaper, Treasurer’s Office, City of Weiser, and Soulen Livestock.
Dorothy married Horace Yockey in December of 1939. He passed away in May of 1963. She married a life-long friend, Robert Wesley Maxwell in May of 1969. She then moved to Baker City, where they lived for 24 years before moving to Ontario. They lived in Ontario for eight years and because of ill health moved back to Weiser in 2001. Wesley passed away in March of 2002. Dorothy moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Frank, in 2004. The last five months she had resided at The Cottages.
Over the years, Dorothy enjoyed going on Elk Conventions and traveling with Wesley, playing bridge, her flower gardens and being with her grandsons and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her grandsons, Scott and Greg, and their accomplishments. Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church in Ontario, Daughters of the Nile and the Lady Elks. Dorothy had a great sense of humor and will be missed. Many thanks to Doris Powell of Heart ‘n Home Hospice, the staff at The Cottages and Dr. Wootton, for all their help and support.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Horace Yockey; infant daughter, Marilyn Yockey; second husband, Wesley Maxwell; and brother, Harold Dutton.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane (Frank) Rast, Weiser; grandsons, Scott (Ginger) Rast, Herriman, Utah, and Greg (Natalie) Rast, Emmett; great-grandchildren, Evan, Andrew, Alexandra, Abigail and Isabel Rast; sister-in-law, Glydeth Dutton, Klamath Falls; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Hope Jackson; and her longtime companion, pet cat, Smokey.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday May 25, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Heart ‘n Home Hospice, 1401 N. Whitley Dr. Suite 16, Fruitland, ID 83619. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.thomasonfuneralhome.com.
