East Side Grade School

East Side School – 1890
East Main & 9th Streets
Built in 1890, 2 story brick, at the cost of $5,000 (about $160,000 in 2023 dollars,) East Side School was also called Longfellow School. There were 4 rooms in the original building, then in 1897 2 more rooms were built on the back (north side).
Teachers the first year were Frank Jenny, Nijah Garrison, Frances Galloway, Emma Cope VanSice.
In 1949 the students then started going to a new building at xxx (the current Jr. High School building,) and the East Side School was demolished in early 1950s.
