Homer Ross
Homer Richard Ross, 79, of Boise, died Saturday, July 6, 1986, in a Boise hospital following a massive heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 10, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. The Rev. David Watt Stein of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Cloverdale Cemetery, Boise.
Homer was born on July 21, 1916, in Weiser, the son of Edward Al and Louetta Mae Westerdale Ross. He was raised in Weiser and attended school there through the 12th grade. Homer was very proud of his distinguished record of no tardies or absences during those 12 years.
He moved to Boise in 1938, where he attended Boise Business University in 1938 and 1939. Homer worked for Reilly Atkinson Co. from 1940 until 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from January 1943 to March 1946. He served with the commanding general in the Pacific Headquarters Company, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
Following his discharge, he was employed with Idaho Title Co. from 1948 to 1955, then as a loan manager for First Federal Savings and Loan from 1955 to 1965, and the Idaho State Tax Commission from 1965 to 1980. Homer assisted in setting up the sales tax in 1965, retiring as chief of sales tax in 1980.
He was a member of Whitney United Methodist Church in Boise. Homer was also a member of Masonic Lodge #2 Boise, Scottish Rite Bodies, Boise; El Korah Shrine (Blacklight Patrol) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also active in the Royal Order of Jesters and the Davidson Clan.
Homer loved nature and peace. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, bowling, playing bridge, and going out into nature with family. He had a keen interest in genealogy and spent countless hours researching his family history.
Homer is survived by his wife, Linda K, and Mick Thompson, and Diane. He is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his siblings, Susan and Joe Gorka.
Burial will be in his wife’s family plot, and one of the toughest and most enduring legacies he leaves is the impact he had on countless lives.
