Howard Albee
Howard Franklin Albee of Grand Junction, CO passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 in Grand Junction, CO. He was 90 years of age.
Howard was born February 1, 1915 at Fruitland, Idaho to Raymond Albee and Myrtle Shaw. He spent his childhood in Southwestern Idaho and graduated from Weiser High School in 1933. Howard graduated from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho with a B.S. in Geology and attended the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming where he worked on his Masters in Geology. Howard was a Geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey for thirty-five years.
He married Beverly Jane Geiger on October 27, 1943 while they were both serving in the U.S. Coast Guard.
They resided in Salt Lake City, UT., Denver, CO., Spokane, WA, and Grand Junction, CO during the Uranium Boom. He had been a resident of Grand Junction for the past 9 years.
Howard was a member of the Utah Geological Society, Geological Society of America, and Grand Junction Geological Society. He served his country in the U.S, Coast Guard from 1940 to 1945. He served overseas during WWII.
Howard truly enjoyed hiking, backpacking, horse-packing, fly-fishing, reading, and botany. He published many technical papers during his long career with the USGS and the accuracy of his maps was without equal.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Jane Albee of Grand Junction, CO; two sons, Michael (Jeannie) Albee of Craig, CO and James (Marta) Albee of Logan, UT; his daughter, Jane (Ivan) Cardenas of Grand Junction, CO; four grandchildren, Tom (Kris) Albee, Steve (Heather) Albee, Jen Albee, and Elicia Cardenas; one great-grandchild, Sophie Albee and soon to be born Taylor Albee. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Myrtle Shaw Albee, and four brothers; Harold, Leslie, Larry, and George Albee.
Howard requested that cremation take place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Utah Nature Conservancy, 1070 East 900 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84105. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
