Kenneth Brown

Obituary

Class of 1938
Feb. 24, 1920 – Nov. 3, 2002
Kenneth Brown
Dr. Kenneth Hill Brown, 82, was taken suddenly in a tour bus accident while doing what he loved most — touring and traveling with his wife of 58 years, Donna Esther Packard. Kenneth was born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada on February 24, 1920 to Scott B. and Edith Hill Brown. His youth was spent working hard at a variety of jobs during the Depression.
Not long after completing his mission, he entered the Air Force as a Lieutenant in 1942, and spent much of the war in specialized training due to his keen intellect and high character. Toward the end of WWII, Kenneth took part in the B-29 Superfortress’s long-range bombing raids from Tinian to Tokyo, along with special top-secret training in Wendover, Nevada, preparing for the war-ending atomic bomb runs.
He married Donna Esther Packard on November 27, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple while on leave. A few months later, the two shared an emotional farewell as Donna watched Kenneth fly off to the Pacific Theater from Nebraska in a shiny new B-29 while she was pregnant, and praying he would return to see their first child. Not only did he return to see Carla born right after the war, he would later greet Julia, Marnae, Donelia, Sheryl, Keith, and Brent as they came into the world.
Dr. Kenneth Brown
While in his 60s and 70s, Dr. Brown, along with dental assistant/wife Donna, spent rewarding years doing dental service work in some of the most remote areas of the world. In their later years, they served the LDS Church as missionaries to the Swiss Temple, the Bogota Temple, and also served in seven other temples.
As seniors, they enjoyed traveling the world, working part-time at Brent and Kim Brown’s Toyota dealership, helping Carla Brown Gridley write her next novel, and following the performances of Keith and Lisa Brown’s five children at Juilliard in New York City.
Kenneth Brown enters Heaven having accrued nothing of tangible worth in the eyes of the world, but having passed on a wealth of wisdom, love, and spiritual values as a legacy to those who mattered most to him. Those intimate few will miss him dearly, as they bury him at a very private memorial service in Alpine, Utah.
