Obituaries in Camarillo, CA | Ventura
After a brave and enduring fight with cancer, Leo Henggeler passed away on Friday, January 5th, 2024, free from pain and surrounded by the love of his family.
Leo was born on September 14, 1947, in Weiser, Idaho. He completed his high school education at Weiser High School in 1965 and furthered his studies at the University of Idaho, graduating in 1969. Leo’s commitment to service led him to join the United States Navy as an officer that same year. He proudly served aboard the USS Forrestal and USS Carpenter until his honorable separation in 1976.
After his Navy service, Leo ventured into residential property management with Oakwood Apartments and rose to the position of Regional Vice President. Subsequently, he continued his career in property management with the Towbes Group in Santa Barbara, California, marking his well-deserved retirement in June 2022.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Leo was a cornerstone of the St. Maximilian Kolbe community, volunteering his free time with the Men’s Club and the Finance Committee. He also found joy in cheering for the New York Yankees, immersing himself in military history, and cherishing moments with his friends and neighbors on Oak Point Dr.
Leo leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his adoring wife of 39 years, Lisa Henggeler, and their children: Andrew (Rhiannon), Patrick (Karina), and Mary Kate (engaged to Mat Sonne, set to marry on May 11, 2024). Since his diagnosis in December 2014, Leo was gifted with the joys of grandparenthood. His heart was enriched by his three beloved grandchildren: Evelyn Rose (5), Leo Thomas (4), and Mia Marie (2 months), who will forever hold memories of their beloved “Papa” close.
Leo is also survived by his siblings Joan Henggeler, Carolyn Felgenhauer of Meridian, Idaho, and Jim (Suzanne) Henggeler of Sedro Woolley, Washington. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Margaret and Charles Henggeler, and his brother, Gene Henggeler.
A Funeral Mass honoring Leo’s life will be held on Friday, January 26, at 11 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 5801 Kanan Road, Westlake Village, CA. Following the mass, a reception will be hosted in O’Reilly Hall. The interment of Leo’s ashes will take place at 2 PM at Pierce Brothers-Valley Oaks, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA.
