Melonie Louis “M.L.” Vial

M.L. Vial Jeweler – August, 30, 1902
Louis first came to Weiser in 1891, and located his shop in the upper story of the Sommer & Gorrie building in Old Town; he was just across the hall from the Signal Office.
After the Hotel Weiser was built to the west in new town, he moved into that building.
In 1892, a year later, he bought the lot from which he has just moved and put up a small store, which he afterward enlarged and improved with a better front; later he built the neat residence which which he occupies on Main Street.
Last spring he bought this lot on which his new building stands and this fall built the structure which he has just moved into, and as his business will no doubt continue to grow, we can look for the building to expand and grow pretentious likewise.

Daughter and Second Wife Scrap Over Insurance of Louis Vial
An unusual suit to determine whether the daughter of a former wife or the widow by a second marriage is entitled to $2,900 of insurance on the life of Louis Vial was filed in the U.S. District Court here today. The defendants, Lula Vial, widow of the insured, and Clara Vial, daughter by his first marriage, made adverse claims to the $2,900 of insurance, along with the cash dividends and interest, amounting to $36.45.
The title of the suit is the Mutual Life Insurance Company vs. Lula Vial and Clara Vial. The plaintiff asks that the court require the defendants to interplead their claims and determine their rights as to the insurance policy.
INSURANCE TO FIRST WIFE
The decree of divorce granted to Clara Vial (first wife) from M. Louis Vial on the grounds of willful desertion on September 7, 1927, shows that Mr. Vial’s first wife received property in Weiser, Idaho, together with a $2,500 insurance policy with the Des Moines Life Insurance Company and a $1,000 policy with the Woodmen of the World. It appears that Mr. Vial operated a store in Weiser, Idaho, before moving to New Mexico.
