Funeral services for Mary Belle Jones, 98, of Nampa, who died on Monday, May 14, 1990, at a Nampa nursing home, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Alsip Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Newcomer, pastor of the Nampa First Congregational Church, officiating. Internment will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery.
Mary Belle Jones was born Jan. 30, 1892, at Monmouth, Ill., to James Worth and Nettie Maria Torrence Foster. Before she was 2 years old her father died and she and her mother moved to Tarkio, Mo. At the age of 12 she moved with her mother to Weiser, Idaho, where she graduated from high school. She later attended business college in Boise and worked for several years in Boise and for the Nampa-Meridian Irrigation District in Nampa.
She married Walter J. Jones Sept. 19,1923, in Nampa. Following their marriage they lived in Everett, Wash., and Waukesha, Wis., for a short time before making their home in Nampa. She and her husband raised two grandchildren, Richard Comstock who lives with his wife, Gloria, in Caldwell, and Ruth Winnicki who lives with her husband, Ray in Fruita, Colo. They also had several other boys in their home for a period of years, including Alvin Hicks of Ontario, Ore. Her husband preceded her in death in 1970. For the past four years she had made her home with her daughter-in-law, Edith Jones of Nampa.
She was a charter member of the Nampa First Congregational Church. She was well known for her sewing and other handwork; especially loving to crochet. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
Other survivors include her daughter-in-law, Edith Jones, Nampa; a son-in-law, Paul Comstock of Oregon; another granddaughter, Janette and her husband, Warren Layton of Buckley, Wash.; 13 great-grandchildren; Liana Belknap and Jaylene Zahradnicek and husband Dan of Nampa; Robin South and husband Pat of Grand Junction, Colo.; Warren Spangenberg of Bend, Ore.; Jay D. Spangenberg of Spokane, Wash.; Lyle Winnicki and wife Sharon of Waipahu, Hawaii; Kyle Winnicki and wife Cornelia of Nampa; Robert, Deborah, Mary and Elisabeth Layton, all of Buckley, Wash.; and Russell and Brad Seewald of Nampa; 5 great-grandchildren, Rennee Belknap, Levi and Joshua Spangenberg, Ky Spangenberg and Bryan Seybert.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Marie Jones, a stepson, Robert M. Jones, a stepdaughter, Gladys Comstock and a daughter-in-law, Arlene Jones.
The family suggest memorials to the Nampa First Congregational Church, 1007 C. Midland Blvd. Nampa 83651 or flowers may be sent.
