Obituary

1871 – May 22, 1942
WEISER (Special) Morris Sommer, Weiser’s oldest merchant and owner of Sommer’s Mens Clothing store, died at the home of his daughter in Portland, Ore., after a long illness, it was learned here Friday.
Mr. Sommer was born in Germany in 1871 and came to Weiser in 1887 (at age 16), where, with his father and brother, he started the mercantile business (Sommer & Sons) that later became the largest general store in Snake River valley. Sommer was a charter member, and for the last 46 years was treasurer of the Weiser Masonic lodge, and a member of the Boise Shrine and Scottish rite. He was also a member of the state war council during World War I.
He is survived by two sons, Edward of Weiser, and Milton of San Francisco; the daughter in Portland, Mrs. Ben Ettlsman, and four grandchildren.
