Paul E. Schaff, Jr.

Obituary

Class of 1938
Nov. 8, 1921 – May 20, 2023
Paul Edwin Schaff, Jr.
At 4:30am, May 20th, 2023, my Daddy passed away. I had 57 wonderful years with him. He was my idol, my hero. He never let anyone down. He was generous and magnanimous and a true leader in the community.
Right now they’re having a big party in Heaven with all his family and friends, and I’m sure he’s made new friends up there too. He gets to see my mom, AND his first wife Marjorie and 3 children he lost in an unfortunate situation. He was peaceful all week, and I got to visit him on Tuesday, his last semi coherent day. I got to tell him everything I loved about him, and when he finally opened his eyes he said a very quiet, “You bet.”
I feel sure he was waiting for good news on Friday before he died. My sister Nancy Schaff Aleshire and my best friend Lesli Hardy Lmt both intuitively knew this and mentioned it the day before. And sure enough after he got the good news, it was only a matter of hours before he passed.
He will be remembered as a very great tennis player and golfer, a Registered Pharmacist, an Ensign in the Navy, a medic in the Marines on the front lines in the Battle of Tarawa during WWII, a general practitioner MD, an anesthesiologist, a Ham Radio Operator who donated many hours to communications for the fire chiefs in Grants Pass during wild fires, a great reader and amateur historian and ornithologist. He donated many hours to teaching at OHSU, ham radio clubs, the red cross, anesthesiology conventions and so many other good things, too many to mention.
I have nothing but good memories of him. He exercised, ate right and took care of his body his whole life.
Thank you Daddy for being a great example of charity and helping your neighbors and friends. Your love and kindness has touched thousands of people. You will be missed by many.
Until we meet again Daddy, I love you
Please let your prayers and thoughts be with all the Schaffs, Perepchuk kids, Aleshire kids, the Moffats, and the Esparzas
Thank you to everyone who has followed my posts about him. I love him so much I just wanted to share him. Please be happy for us. Our dad is in Heaven where there is nothing but Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control, the Fruit of the Spirit. Rejoice with us as he is no longer suffering please
