Obituary

1884 – Oct 13, 1927
Raymond B. Ayers, well known Emmett attorney, died Monday at his home in this city. Death undoubtedly was a welcome visitor, for he had suffered much through an illness extending over a long period. Mr. Ayers was in the prime of life. He was 43 years of age, having been born at Columbus, Kan., in 1884. Six years later he came to Idaho with his parents Judge and Mrs. J.W. Ayers, and settled in Weiser, where he grew to young manhood. After graduating from the Weiser schools, he graduated from the University of Idaho and then took a course in bookkeeping in a Portland business college. Then he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and take up the practice of law. He studied in his father’s office, then in the office of Judge Bert Varian. He was elected probate judge of Washington County and served one term. He practiced law in Midvale and also at Cascade, then, in 1921 came to Emmett. He is survived by his widow and two daughters and his father and mother. The funeral was held Tuesday from the residence and was in charge of Butte Masonic lodge.

AYERS MAYOR OF WEISER
Defeats Frank E. Smith By a Majority of 130
(Special Dispatch.)
WEISER, April 4.—The Citizens’ ticket emerged victorious in today’s election, with the exception of the engineer position. This election saw the heaviest voter turnout in Weiser’s history, with 851 ballots cast out of a registered 1020 voters. The clear weather encouraged a strong turnout, particularly among women voters, resulting in a lively contest throughout the day.
The election results are as follows:
Mayor: Ray B. Ayers
Clerk: Stewart H. Travis
Treasurer: Mary B. Linderman
Engineer: Robert J. Wood
Councilmen:
First Ward: I.F. Smith, L.C. Wisdom
Second Ward: Bernard Hass, W.F. Klotz
Third Ward: W.A. Fulkerson, F.B. Lloyd
Ayers secured the mayoral position with a majority of 130 votes over Frank Smith across the three wards.
