John Russell “J.R.” Myers
Public Assistance Official J.R. Myers Dies at Weiser
WEISER (Special) — Services for J. Russell Myers, 47, director of public assistance for Washington, Adams, and Valley counties, who died at his home late Saturday night, will be held Wednesday at 11 am. in the Northam-Jones chapel with the Rev. Mrs. J. S. Beem officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest.
Mr. Myers was born March 29, 1909, in Weiser and attended school here. He also attended Albion Normal School and the University of Spokane. He was a building contractor in Salt Lake City, Utah, for several years and taught school here for two years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a past commander of the American Legion post of Weiser; was a member and a past noble grand of the Odd Fellows lodge, the Weiser Lions Club, a charter member of the Weiser Little Theater, a member of the Red Cross and the Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Weiser; two daughters, Pat Myers, Weiser, and Mrs. Carol Gilmore, Salt Lake City; two sons, Leon and Gordon Myers of Weiser; his father, John F. Myers, Weiser; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Holt, Willows, Calif., and Mrs. Wesley Roehr, Payette; one brother, Paul Myers of Emmett, and one grandchild.
